Brown Elected NAR 2012 First Vice President: Set to become 2014 President
Steve Brown, Owner-Broker of Dayton's Irongate Inc., Realtors was unanimously elected by the National Association of Realtors' (NAR) Board of Directors as its 2012 First Vice President at its recent May 14th meeting in Washington DC. The election puts Brown in a line of succession to become the 2014 President of the National Association of Realtors, the nation's largest industrial trade and advocacy association with just over 1 million members, known as "The Voice of Real Estate". In comments after his election, Brown thanked the Ohio Association specifically for their support, pointing out: "In the century-long history of the National Association of Realtors, eight NAR Presidents have come from Ohio. I am proud and humbled to now be the ninth, as Realtors, and especially Ohio Realtors, help the American Dream continue to take flight..."
Brown, 58, has been one of Dayton's top selling Realtors for the past 35 years, and has previously served the industry as President of the 1995 Dayton Area Board of Realtors, the 2002 Ohio Association of Realtors, 2006 NAR Regional Vice President, and most recently as the 2009 NAR Vice-President for Committees, for which work he received the prestigious "President's Cup" award. Brown has also served on the Ohio Division of Real Estate's Education and Research Committee, as well as the Governor's Task Force on Eminent Domain.
A native Daytonian, and a 1975 graduate of Indiana University, majoring in journalism and public policy in the School of Public Policy and Environmental Affairs, Steve followed in his mother's Realtor footsteps and joined a brand-new brokerage, Irongate Inc., REALTORS, quickly becoming one of the "Top Ten" agents in Dayton. In 1984 he became a partner in the firm. Since becoming President of Irongate in 2004, Brown and his business partner Greg Gillen have overseen Irongate's transition into a family of real estate services that includes mortgage, title and insurance divisions, even while growing the company into one of the largest, local, independent real estate brokerages in the Dayton market with six offices and 325 agents.
